Ziegler Park Game Tables
Game tables for the freshly renovated Ziegler Park in the Over-The-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati, OH. A collection of ping pong and chess tables were designed and produced to match the needs of an urban environment and the updated aesthetic of the park. This project was designed with strength and durability in mind from its inception. Various designs were explored, landing on a simple welded steel base with an abstracted laser-cut steel net and a reinforced pre-cast concrete top. The net is perforated with the brand mark of Such + Such, hundreds of offset plus signs. The reinforced pre-cast concrete top was chosen for its durability. When designing, the approach was taken that furniture should be one with the urban landscape. Skateboards and whatever else the city threw at them should be expected. Skateboards, in particular, informed the exaggerated chamfer along the front edge of the table tops. The choice of concrete also allowed for a sandblasted checkerboard pattern in the chess table tops. All steel components were sandblasted, zinc coated for longevity, then powder-coated to a matching RAL spec. Commissioned by the City of Cincinnati, 3CDC, Cincinnati Park Board, Cincinnati Recreation Commission, and GoVibrant.
This project was followed by CET TV for PBS and is documented on The Art Show Se8Ep5: The Creative Team at Such + Such.
